Bio

Until his retirement in June 2021, Steven D. Jackson served as the director of IMSE at NC State. After earning his undergraduate engineering degree, he worked as a designer and department head in an aircraft support equipment company. There, he promoted product-focused organization and fostered collaboration among design, planning and manufacturing teams. Later, he became vice president, then president, of a computer-aided manufacturing software company. Moreover, he managed product development and overall business operations.

After spending two years at a New York investment firm, Jackson returned to Raleigh to pursue graduate study at IMSE. He earned his degree in 1993. Furthermore, his career allowed him to visit many manufacturing facilities and solve a broad range of challenges. His experience reflects deep engagement in both technical and managerial aspects of manufacturing. He lives in Raleigh with his wife Carolyn, daughter Mary, and son Will.
